From the RCID: Unfortunately we had another incident with the same modus operandi as the previous incidents reported over the past 7 weeks, on Saturday afternoon.
The previous incidents have occurred mostly in the East Sector (below Milner Road to the M5) where extra patrols have been deployed. This incident occurred in Portland Road (South Sector)
The residents left the house at 13:10 on Saturday afternoon. At 15:30 whilst patrolling the patrol officer noticed that the garden gate was open and on investigating noticed that the security gate had been forced open and the front double doors had been kicked in. He called for backup and the residents were advised. On their return they confirmed that a flat screen TV and laptop had been stolen. Shelves in a cupboard in the main bedroom had been removed where the safe was housed had been opened and jewellery removed. Two Apple Macs were left behind. One does not expect this type of incident to take place in broad daylight when the street is a hive of activity.
The neighbour had been working in his garden the whole day and had not seen or heard anything unusual. He noticed at some time during the afternoon that the gate was open but was not aware that the family had gone out and assumed there was a reason for it. The resident is sure they were seen leaving the house as a family. We appeal to residents to please be vigilant when leaving your property and look to see if there are any suspicious looking cars parked in the road with occupants inside or suspicious people in the road and to report it to ADT and the Sector Police immediately.
