FERNWOOD, CAPE TOWN
SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM & MAN TRACKING UNIT AMBUSH HOUSEBREAKER/ HOME INVASION SUSPECT.
Mountain Men SRT (Special Response Team) and members of our elite Man Tracking Unit conducted special operations in the Fernwood area, as a result of recent housebreakings and a home invasion. Based on intelligence gathered by our Man Tracking Unit and as a result of our own investigations, an infiltration route and method being used by criminal elements was established. A specific area was identified and a night ambush was set up. At approximately 22h55 on Saturday, 10 August 2013, a suspect entered the target area and tampered with the perimeter fence of a dwelling. He cased two dwellings and the ambush was sprung, resulting in the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect discarded a bolt cutter and attempted to flee but was overwhelmed by the ambush group. He was dressed in dark clothing and was found to be in possession of a screwdriver, head mounted flashlight and a black beanie.
This suspect has provided false information pertaining to his date of birth, residential address as well as his name.
This arrest has been the result of many hours of work by our two units who have worked in cold and wet conditions, mainly at night.
The suspect was handed over to Claremont SAPS and detained for being in possession of housebreaking implements. SAPS to link him to the other incidents in Fernwood and surrounding areas.
